A GOP comeback in midterm elections?

January 2, 2010

The New Year’s Day edition of the LA Times ran a story with the following subheading…

Republicans could have a big year, but they need to win 40 House and 11 Senate seats to regain control of Congress. That’s a tall order.

The Republican Party needs to pick up a single seat in the senate to stop the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and his Party from continuing their unobstructed destruction of the Republic. Just one seat is needed.

Are we really ready to trust our fate, once again, to the party which under the banner of George W. Bush heralded the largest increase in the size and scope of government in the history of our country?

A little over a year ago, we the people went to the polls and sent a lot of Republicans packing and replaced them with something even worse, all in the name of “change.” We selected candidates based on Party, without a proper examination of the people we voted into office.

Give the Republicans that one seat in the senate and see if they can keep a promise. If they can’t, then give both the “R” and “D” office squatters a pink slip in the next few elections. We can make a difference if we look beyond Party affiliation and look to the individual candidate. Or to recycle a winning phrase, “yes we can.”

Until next time,
